Why is software created using taxpayers’ money not released as Free Software?

We want legislation requiring that publicly financed software developed for the public sector be made publicly available under a Free and Open Source Software licence. If it is public money, it should be public code as well.

Code paid by the people should be available to the people!

This is exactly what we are working for here in Gothenburg. It´s a slow and tidious process with so many enities that have the right to work alot on there own in making deals with consult firms that dont want to use och give this as open source. I write it down in all our ventures that we must get the code and that it shall be open source as soon as a product is ready for launch. BUt thatnks for this link, ill share it and use it.
